Edinburgh Old Town was initially contained within the fortified walls, guarded by Edinburgh
Castle, but over the centuries the city expanded to the New Town and beyond, before including the historic Ports of Leith and Newhaven.

Today, the Old Town and New Town are World Heritage sites and Edinburgh has become a vibrant cosmopolitan city popular with both visitors and local residents as throughout the year there are numerous special events, and Festivals ongoing including the Royal Military Tattoo, the Fringe and International Festivals, and the Hogmanay (New Year) parties.
